April started writing at the age of ten when she would compose stories for her classmates. Encouraged by her teachers, she entered stories in school publications and eventually became editor of the high school newspaper. She first majored in journalism in college but after realizing that she was not aggressive enough to be a news reporter, she switched to pre-med and then education. She believes God led her to become a schoolteacher, which she was for 30 years.

She never forgot her love of writing, though. As an English and science teacher mostly for at-risk students, she helped kids learn to write and also wrote newsletters for school faculty and articles for professional publications.

April and her husband Jimmy raised two children, Matthew and Natalie. Eventually she was able to concentrate on her writing more, and eventually published her first two books, I’m Dreaming of a Black Christmas: A Holiday Survival Guide and later, Night Keeper, a novel.

April recently published two more novels, The Keeper and Keeper II: The Storm, and is hard at work on her next. She resides in East Texas with husband Jimmy and Boston terrier Stella. She enjoys spending time with her children, their spouses, and her three grandchildren. She also enjoys working part-time at a gift-wrapping shop, glamping with friends, watching Kansas City Chiefs football, listening to the music of former student Miranda Lambert, and keeping up with friends and former students on social media.
