After a successful career in mathematics and computer science, receiving grants from the National Science Foundation and NASA, and being listed in Who’s Who in Computer Science and Two Thousand Notable Americans, James R. Callan turned to his first love—writing. He has had four non-fiction books published. He now concentrates on his favorite genre, mystery/suspense/thriller. His thirteenth book released in May, 2018.

One of his mystery/suspense books ranked as high as number seven in its category on Amazon. The audio version of another book rose as high as number six on the Books in Motion list. He has had shorter works published in five anthologies. In addition to writing books, Callan gives workshops on various writing and publishing topics in Texas and Mexico.

He served as President of the Trails Country Center for the Arts in the early years before it was renamed the Winnsboro Center for the Arts. For fourteen years, Callan served as director of a respected writers’ conference.
